This couple, wrapped in each other’s arms at Highland Park in Fountain Square, isn’t posing; they’re feeling. Her head tilts back in delight, his eyes crinkle behind his glasses, and the world around them fades into soft, creamy bokeh. This is what an Indianapolis engagement session should be: deeply you.
Highland Park, tucked into the vibrant pulse of Fountain Square, is one of my favorite hidden gems for engagement photography in Indianapolis. This compact urban park, framed by historic homes, mature trees, and is just steps away from Virginia Avenue’s murals and neon signs. It offers the perfect blend of natural softness and city edge. In fall, golden leaves frame your embrace. Even on overcast days like this one, the diffused light creates a dreamy, flattering glow that makes skin tones radiant and eyes sparkle. The park’s intimate scale means we can capture tender close-ups like this one, then step out to brick walls, retro marquees, or rooftop patios all within a five-minute walk.
What makes this image so special? Connection. Not stiff smiles or forced poses, but the kind of laughter that bubbles up when you’re truly present with the person you love. As an Indianapolis engagement photographer with over a decade of experience, I’ve learned that the best photos come when couples forget the camera exists. That’s why I guide you gently through moments that feel like a date, not a photoshoot. A whisper in his ear. A playful nudge. A shared secret. Before you know it, you’re laughing like no one’s watching… because to me, you’re the only two people in the world.
This particular frame was captured using a lighthearted prompt I love (let’s just say it involves a little “tag” and a lot of giggles), but the magic isn’t in the prompt; it’s in them. Her hand on his neck, his arm pulling her close, the way their joy radiates through the lens.
