Monument Circle

Downtown Indianapolis Engagement Session

There are so many ways to capture images at the Soldiers and Sailor Monument on Monument Circle, this is one we lovingly refer to as “Little People Big World.” It allows you to see the complete backdrop making the engaged couple featured in this photo seem small. This photo did require some retouching to remove people in the background because, as anyone who lives in Indianapolis knows, the circle is usually bustling with people.

The Soldiers and Sailor Monument that sits inside the circle was designed by Bruno Schmitz of Berlin Germany and then constructed in 1812 out of gray oolitic limestone found in Owen County Indiana. It is the memorial to Hoosiers who served in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and frontier wars. The monument stands only 15 shorter than the Statue of Liberty.

The Circle is walking distance to several other Indianapolis landmarks including The War Memorial, Arts Garden, State House, and Indianapolis Repertory Theatre just to name a few.

Location: 1 Monument Circle Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.
