This ethereal black-and-white double exposure captures the magic of wedding photography at Black Iris Estate. The couple’s profiles emerge as delicate silhouettes, their foreheads nearly touching in an intimate moment, while dreamy orbs of light dance across the frame like scattered stars. The technique, created entirely in-camera using the natural bokeh from the ballroom’s grand chandelier layered over their silhouette, transforms a single instant into something poetic and timeless. Edited in elegant monochrome, the image strips away color to reveal pure emotion, texture, and light, letting the love between them shine brightest.
Moments like this are at the heart of what we do. We don’t just document weddings, we craft unique, artistic images that feel deeply personal and unmistakably yours. Every couple deserves photographs that stand out, that tell their story in ways no one else could replicate. That’s why we push creative boundaries while staying rooted in authenticity, always prioritizing genuine connection.
This particular portrait was captured during golden-hour portraits on the grounds of Black Iris Estate, a stunning historic venue in Indiana known for its elegant ballroom, sprawling lawns, and romantic charm. As the couple stepped outside for a quiet moment together, the setting sun backlit them perfectly against the trees, creating a strong, clean silhouette. Inside the ballroom earlier that day, I had noticed how beautifully the chandelier’s crystals scattered light—those soft, circular bokeh highlights that photographers dream of.
Rather than compositing in post-production, I chose to create the double exposure directly in-camera. By layering the chandelier bokeh as the base exposure and then carefully aligning the couple’s silhouette in a second exposure (using multiple-exposure mode on the camera), the two elements merged organically in a single frame. The result is a dreamlike portrait where the couple appears enveloped in their own constellation of light—romantic, artistic, and entirely real. No heavy editing tricks, just intentional use of light, timing, and technique.
We love experimenting with creative methods like this when they enhance the story and suit the couple’s vibe. Not every wedding calls for double exposures, but when the moment and the light align, the outcome can be extraordinary. It’s one more way we deliver images that feel fresh, unique, and far beyond the expected.
Every image we create, including this one, is delivered in both full color and carefully crafted black and white. We believe both versions tell important parts of the story: color preserves the warmth of the day, the vibrancy of florals, the subtle hues of a sunset sky; black and white strips everything back to emotion, shape, light, and shadow. Offering both gives you the freedom to choose what resonates most, or to use them side by side in your album, prints, or gallery to create contrast and depth.
This commitment extends to all our couples. Whether your wedding is at a grand estate like Black Iris, a secluded garden venue, a modern loft, or an intimate backyard celebration, our goal remains the same: to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind photographs that capture who you are and how you love. We scout light obsessively, stay attuned to moments, and incorporate artistic techniques when they serve the emotion, not just for effect.
If you’re dreaming of wedding photographs that go beyond the traditional, that blend classic romance with creative artistry, let’s create something unforgettable together. Reach out to start planning your coverage. Your love story deserves images as beautiful, layered, and timeless as this one.
